One of the themes in the Bible, which should interest us a lot is, the faithfulness, and the absolute dependability of our God. Can there be any subject more interesting to study, than the virtues of God? Among all the amazing and wonderful virtues of God, His faithfulness, and the absolute dependability of YAHWEH, stand at the very top.
For a Christian, these traits of God’s character mean a lot. It keeps us shielded from the righteousness, justice and the fair wrath of God. Because God is faithful and dependable, we are not utterly consumed for our unfaithfulness towards Him – 2 Timothy 2:13.
William Williams, wrote the beautiful hymn, “Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah” in 1745. He himself was a bit “wandering” around in his life. Probably, this hymn is a reflection of William Williams’ anchor, in the midst of all his struggles. What a hymn it is!
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
Feed me now and ever more,
Feed me now and ever more.
The same, simple faith and trust on God’s faithfulness, and the absolute dependability on God is, reflected well in Psalm 36:5-7 – “5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep… 7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”
If it were not for God’s faithfulness and His dependability, we would have been consumed by the righteous wrath of God, long ling back. May these thoughts be a source of strength, to help us through 2024. Much more than that, may these virtues of God, prod and prompt us to be, ever so grateful to God. May we live all the days of our lives, with gratitude and thanks, for all that we already have, purely, because of the goodness and the grace of God.
"God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him we were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Things might not look the way they ought to be in our life, but if we remain dependent on Him, He will help us out."
