Why does one lift up their soul unto the LORD? Most of the times than not to ask for something from the LORD. Very few times one would pray seeking the LORD to help us know His way, so that we may walk on it faithfully and obediently. What about us this morning dear brothers and sisters? With what wants and needs do we lift honour souls in prayer unto the LORD Jesus?
David’s prayer and his deepest desire, in the midst of one of the toughest times in his life, is found in Psalm 143:8b. Despite all what is happening, he deeply desires to know the way of the LORD. Why does he wants to know the way of the LORD? So that he would walk on it! This is the reason for David to lift up his soul in prayer unto the LORD.
– “8…Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” – Psalm 143:8b
What a desire and what a prayer! David understood the secret for all his safety and security. He understood that without the LORD nothing is good and nothing is a blessing, even if we have the best this world can offer. On the contrast, with God beside us, everything is a blessing, even if we have nothing of the good that this world can offer. David is wanting God in his life, more than anything else.
– “David seeks more than relief from distress; he desires a life governed by God’s will. The Lord’s way is the path of obedience, righteousness, and wisdom revealed in His word. God guides those who humbly receive His instruction.” – Berean Study Bible Notes
Dear brothers and sisters, how about us this morning? Whatever may be happening in our lives, what are we seeking and what are we desiring from the LORD? Let us seek the LORD Jesus that He would teach us His way – “CAUSE ME TO KNOW THY WAY.” Let us seek Him that he would help us walk in all His ways.
– “11 Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” – Psalm 86:11
Even so, the LORD help us.
"He [David] prays that he might be enlightened with the knowledge of God's will; and this is the first work of the Spirit. A good man does not ask the way in which is the most pleasant walking, but what is the right way. Not only show me what thy will is, but teach me how to do it. Those who have the Lord for their God, have his Spirit for their Guide; they are led by the Spirit. He prays that he might be enlivened to do God's will."
