The Christian is called to be meek, just like the sheep. This is exactly opposite to what the world instructs its followers. The world consider the meek Christian a weak person. However, the LORD who called to follow Him, has instructed us to be meek and lowly, just like our Master and Redeemer.
– “29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:29
– “5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” – Matthew 5:5
“The meek are happy. The meek are those who quietly submit to God; who can bear insult; are silent, or return a soft answer; who, in their patience, keep possession of their own souls, when they can scarcely keep possession of anything else. These meek ones are happy, even in this world. Meekness promotes wealth, comfort, and safety, even in this world.” – says Matthew Henry while commenting on the words “Blessed are the meek.”
Let us not forget that we are called to be meek. When we are meek, the Bible instructs us that the LORD our God will teach us His way. The implication being, unless we are meek and lowly, just like our Master, we cannot be taught anything of value and worth about the kingdom of God.
– “9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.” – Psalm 25:9
How about us this morning, dear brothers and sisters? Would the LORD Jesus count us as “meek” Christian? Let us seek the LORD Jesus to help us to be meek and lowly like Him. Being of a meek spirit is of utmost importance to w Christian, is the conclusion of the matter, with far reaching consequences. Therefore, let us ask God to teach us His ways. Let us desire with all our hearts to be faithful and obedient followers of the LORD Jesus Christ. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"Jesus promises God’s favour to those who quietly submit their strength to Him. Such meek believers now enjoy deep, settled blessing and will one day share Christ’s literal rule over a renewed earth. Meekness, therefore, is the surprising pathway to both present peace and future possession."
