The “progress” man has made in technology, has its benefits, but however, the dangers from it, that have just begun to rear its ugly head, far outweighs its benefits. We all have seen how deep fakes are deceiving even the strongest of security protocols, and convincing the person to talk to the impersonators. Don’t have to say much about deep fake videos doing the rounds.
If we take anything that man has invented since the beginning of time, it has been ultimately exploited and abused for the benefit of a few, and for the detriment of the masses. Whatever man touched and touches, it has and will become a monster… thus far it is so, and even in the future…with the possibility of it becoming even more sinister as we progress – a FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER.
The Stanford University article, “Dangers of Technological Progress” by Tim Chao, Tuan Pham and Mikhail Seregine ask this question about the dangers of technology for the society – “But what social problems will arise with such progress? Will we become increasingly dependent on our computers to the point of social breakdown?” They answer their question by quoting Theodore Kaczynski – “technology is a more powerful social force than the [human] aspiration for freedom, …while technological progress AS A WHOLE continually narrows our sphere of freedom, each new technical advance CONSIDERED BY ITSELF appears to be desirable.” The question by the authors to conclude this segment, sums it up well – “Will technology be so ingrained in society as to destroy it and imprison humanity?” In my personal opinion, we are already imprisoned.
The article, talking about dangers for humanity in regards to military use of technology, they ask this question – “The potential applications of technology to warfare are well known. But is this application positive or negative?” Then they conclude it this way, “One might argue that the military application of science is undoubtedly negative in that it has led to the creation of the atomic bomb and other such weapons of mass destruction. Technology has made the complete destruction of humanity possible. That capacity continues to grow, as more nations develop nuclear technology and the proliferation of nuclear warheads continues.”
The point we ought to understand is this, the monster is not in the “machines” that we create, rather it is in the heart of man, as the Word of God so rightly puts it – “9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” – Jeremiah 17:9 – DECEITFUL and SICK!
"Many of the dangers we face indeed arise from science and technology—but, more fundamentally, because we have become powerful without becoming commensurately wise. The world-altering powers that technology has delivered into our hands now require a degree of consideration and foresight that has never before been asked of us."
