Knowing someone properly is essential to appreciate them appropriately. The more we know about a person, the deeper our understanding would be about that person. The deeper our understanding, the more accurate and appropriate our appreciation. When we don’t know someone properly, our understanding and our appreciation of that person would be just as ignorant.
David has a great and deep understanding of who God is. Hence, he pens these words in Psalm 145:3
– “3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” – Psalms 145:3
David truly knows who the Living God is.
Therefore, he says…
– the LORD is GREAT
– His Greatness is UNSEARCHABLE
– Therefore, GOD is to be GREATLY PRAISED
James Montgomery Boice, a Reformed Christian theologian, Bible teacher, author, and speaker, known for his writing on the authority of the holy Scriptures, and the defence of Biblical inerrancy, comments thus about David’s Psalm 145.
– “Psalm 145 is indeed a monumental praise psalm, a fit summary of all David had learned about God during a long lifetime of following hard after the Almighty.” – James Montgomery Boice
David’s knowledge of God, had lead him to praise and worship His God, deeply and intimately. What is our understanding of the LORD, who we claim to worship? Is our understanding of who God is, based upon our personal knowledge and experience? Or, is it someone else’s experience and knowledge, that we claim to be ours? Do we KNOW who our God is? Does the knowledge of God lead us fall at His feet and praise and worship Him? May the LORD help us to truly know Him, and help us to gain, a deep and personal knowledge of Him. Even so the LORD help us.
"David piled praise upon praise, declaring God’s greatness and great worthiness to be praised. We get the feeling that David felt it would be dishonourable to withhold his praise to God or to give Him half-hearted praise."
