Prophet Isaiah continues to expound the attributes of YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty, in Isaiah 49:29. Here, in this verse, we see, God’s compassion, concern, and consideration towards those who rebelled against Him, and are His enemies – even though it is addressed to the people of Israel.
– “29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” – Isaiah 40:29
Berean Study Bible Notes, commenting on the above verse brings out the essence of what is intended here. “[It] emphasizes God’s provision and support for those who are weary and exhausted. In the context of Isaiah 40, the Israelites were in exile, feeling powerless and abandoned. This promise reassures them of God’s sustaining power. Biblically, this reflects God’s consistent character, as seen in passages like Psalm 68:35, where God is described as the one who gives strength to His people. Theologically, it underscores the idea that human strength is insufficient without divine aid. This can also be seen as a type of Christ, who in the New Testament offers rest to the weary (Matthew 11:28).”
The God of the Bible, is the God who has, a compassionate heart. That is what the prophet Isaiah is saying. How wonderful it is to know that, God is very much present with us, even in our weakest, and our most vulnerable state. Therefore, Isaiah declares…
– He gives power to the weak
– to those who have no might He increases strength
This same God, the One who created us, and has Himself come down, to reach out, and to redeem the fallen world, says…
– “28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Isn’t that amazing to see, God caring for us, so much?
1- We see the same compassionate heart of God, in the Garden of Eden, in the face of human disobedience, rebellion and sin.
2- The same compassionate heart of God, is seen in the ministry of Jesus our Redeemer.
3- The same compassionate heart of God is seen, in the redemption act of God, where Jesus hung of the cross, for His enemies – that is, you, me and everyone else – the whole world – John 3:16.
When we have, so great a God with us, why worry, why fear, and why be afraid? Let us TRUST God to lead us; and let us step out in faith, and walk in all obedience, in all what God is asking from us. Let us be least concerned about our needs, and our necessities – God will take care of them. He will do all what is needful, and will provide us out needs.
– “28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” – Romans 8:28-32
“HE GIVES POWER…HE INCREASES STRENGTH.” Even so, the LORD help us.
"Where God had begun the work of grace, he will perfect it. He will help those who, in humble dependence on him, help themselves. As the day, so shall the strength be. In the strength of Divine grace their souls shall ascend above the world. They shall run the way of God's commandments cheerfully."
