Words have such power in them, that they can inspire and can also destroy a person. The words of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, not only inspire and encourage us, but much more than that, they give us hope, and fill our, otherwise dull life, with life, and overflowing living waters.
When the seventy disciples whom Jesus sent into the land of Israel returned back [Luke 10:17-20,] they had such amazing report to give. Their joy was uncontainable – “17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.” – Luke 10:17.
Hearing them, the LORD Jesus says – “18…I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:18-19
The god of this world, the prince of darkness, is a pretender and a fallen angel…he is nothing more than that. We need not fear him nor his power…though he is wily and slippery. The LORD who called us has empowered us with His Holy Spirit, and He will help and guide us.
The LORD further says something, that should make us truly rejoice with thanks and gratitude – “20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” – Luke 10:20
What we should rejoice at, is not that we are given such amazing power and position, but rather, the fact, that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Nothing, yes nothing, can ever compare to this truth. Why so? Because we do not deserve it, nor can we ever earn it with money, or our good works…if any. This is a free gift of God, and therefore we ought to rejoice. Rejoice with thankfulness and gratitude…and follow the One who called us out of darkness, into His marvellous light, faithfully and obediently. May the LORD help us.
