Thanksgiving is one of the biggest “festive times” in the USA. Rest of the world, do not attach so much significance to it. This does not mean, rest of the Christian world wants to be thankless and ungrateful.
Thanksgiving should be all about the expression of our personal gratitude to God, the Giver of all good things. Now, let us ask ourselves a question – “IS OUR TURKEY READY FOR THE THANKSGIVING?” Yes, that is precisely the question, we ought to ask ourselves. However, it is good to know that, WE ARE THE TURKEY FOR THE THANKSGIVING.
Now to the next logical question – WHY IS IT SO? The LORD, who bestowed upon us innumerable blessings, and continues to do so, is not interested in receiving things from us, and not even our praises and thanks, as much as He is interested in receiving our hearts, and receiving us, as the offering. Hence, we are to be that turkey of the Thanksgiving.
Now to an important question – AM I WILLING TO BE THE TURKEY OF THE THANKSGIVING? Anything less, or anything else is automatically disqualified, and our offering stands rejected, worth nothing at all.
– “16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart – These, O God, You will not despise.” – Psalm 51:16-17
– “1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. “ – Romans 12:1-2
Now to the all important question – WHAT CAN I GIVE HIM? We cannot give anything in return, to God, for all that we have, is received from Him. However, we can give, as a token of our love and gratitude, a whole lot of things. We can give ourselves wholly as a living sacrifice. We can give our time, our talents, and our treasure, to the LORD, who had ever so generously bestowed upon us, such precious and priceless things.
Some more questions that will helps us give thanks to God, in a much better manner.
– What are we thankful to God, about?
– What are we thankful to God, about those around us?
– What does our heart, and our mind, desire this Thanksgiving Day?
– Do our hearts and minds want to shout to God, our praises and thanks, with gratitude, for all His innumerable blessings? Or, do we desire to ask God for this, that and everything, that we think, we need?
“30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.” – Psalm 69:30-31
“17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:17
May we always be grateful and thankful to the LORD, and to all whom God used, to bless us, in our lives. May we always offer to God, much more than anything, ourselves, first and foremost. Let us remember, that it is God who blessed us, and blesses us still, therefore, He alone is worthy of all our praise, worship, honour and gratitude. So, IS “YOUR TURKEY” READY FOR THIS THANKSGIVING? Even so the LORD help us.
"True worship is not merely external rituals or empty gestures; it flows from the heart, driven by genuine love and devotion to God...True worship means sacrifice...True worship involves sacrificing our own desires, selfish ambitions, and sinful inclinations on the altar of God’s will. It is a daily surrender of our lives to Him, making a conscious effort to live in obedience to His Word and follow His ways."
