When we cannot see the fruit of our work, we normally tend to get concerned, if what we are working upon is of any use or not. John Wesley, the English founder of Methodism, the man whom the LORD used greatly in His vineyard, once wrote in his journal…
– “Oh, let none think his labour is lost because the fruit does not immediately appear.” – 13 June 1742
The words of the wise John Wesley are a great encouragement to all of us. He is encouraging himself, and also his readers, not to lose heart, just because we are not seeing the fruit of our labour, despite all our sincere and hard labour. The LORD in His Bible had spoken about this quite clearly. Let us read it.
– ’58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58
– “9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” – Galatians 6:9-10
The Word of God makes it amply clear that we need not be worried about the fruit, if we are working sincerely, faithfully, and obediently. Let nothing discourage us from continuing to work faithfully and heartily in the vineyard of our LORD. Our earthly masters may not recognise our labour. Others around us may not see all the hard work we put in. Let this not discourage us nor dishearten us. Our labour in God’s vineyard will never be wasted. God will bless our efforts, even though we may not see them right away.
– “Your labour is not in vain – It will be rewarded. It is not as if you were to die and never live again. There will be a resurrection, and you will be suitably recompensed then. What you do for the honour of God will not only be attended with an approving conscience, and with happiness here, but will be met with the glorious and eternal rewards of heaven.” – Albert Barnes
Therefore, let us walk by faith, as the apostle Paul said – 2 Corinthians 5:7, and not be overly concerned, distracted and disturbed by the lack of fruit, for all our labour. The LORD will take care of it. Let us continue, on our part, to be faithful and obedient to our LORD, in all the works He had entrusted to our care, and do what we are asked to do, with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. Even so the LORD help us.
"...we may not always see the fruit of our labours, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. Ultimately, God is the one who is doing the work, and his loving purposes never fail...Just because you can’t always see the fruits of your labour, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. Be true to God and love others. God’s word “will accomplish what [HE] desire and achieve the purpose for which [HE] sent it.” [Isaiah 55:11]"
