Faith is an essential aspect of our Christian life, our spiritual growth, and our spiritual progress. Oxford Dictionary defines “faith” as – “trust in somebody’s ability or knowledge; trust that somebody/something will do what has been promised.”
Faith, as we come to understand from the Bible, implies, trust, dependency and belief in God, in His trustworthiness, in His ability to keep His word, and the promises made to us, in His written Word, the Bible. God, as we understand and know is, absolutely trustworthy.
The Word of God, in Hebrews 11:1, helps us to understand, the meaning of faith – faith which is expected of us, as Christians and disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ – “1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Simple and straightforward…no complicated explanations, isn’t it?
This is how I wish to see the above verse – Faith requires us to trust God, even when there is no logical, and explainable reason available, right then. The plain and simple question is, What is the meaning of faith, and the purpose of it, if everything were laid out plain and clear, where we can see it, and then believe it? It is no faith at all…honestly…if we were to see everything, and then believe. Is it not so?
How are we doing in regard to faith? Do we trust God for all our needs? Do we depend upon God? Do we believe in His ability to provide our needs? Do we believe that God can and will protect us in the face of life-threatening opposition? Are we willing to wait upon God patiently? Test for our faith, comes in various shapes and sizes. How are we holding up to such tests? Let us trust God, for there is nothing better. Faith is nothing but rusting God to stand good upon His word. HalleluYah! He surely will!!!
"Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times."
