God is light. In God there is no darkness.
– “12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world…” – John 8:12
– “5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” – 1 John 1:5
God called us out of darkness into His marvellous light. God poured His light/love into our hearts.
– “9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” – 1 Peter 2:9-10
God wants us to represent His light. God wants us to be His “little” lights.
– “12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” – John 8:12
– “14 “You are the light of the world…” – Matthew 5:14a
– “6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” – 1 John 1:6
Light is always visible to everyone. Light makes all things visible to us.
– “12…He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” – John 8:12b
– “14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” – Matthew 5:14
Thou shalt not lie is being that light.
Thou shalt not steal is being that light.
Thou shalt not kill is being that light.
Thou shalt not commit adultery is being that light.
Thou shalt not covet anything of your neighbour is being that light.
Thou shalt love your neighbour as yourself is being that light.
Loving our enemies is being that light.
Praying for our persecutors is being that light.
– “3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” – 1 John 2:3-6
Not taking revenge is being that light.
Showing the other cheek is being that light.
Enduring injustice is being that light.
Suffering for right living is being that light.
– “9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” – 1 John 2:9-11
Christian life is not some theory that we live in our hearts and minds. Christian life is not a secret life, hidden from everyone. Christian life is not something between a Christian and his God. It is not a private and personal matter, unknown and unseen by others around us. Christian life is visible to everyone, just as the light would be, to all around the lamp.
– “16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
May the LORD help us to be authentic Christians, and not some clever pretenders, masquerading as a child of God. Authentic Christians are doers and not talkers and pretenders.
– “22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” – James 1:22
– “14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,” – Philippians 2:14
Not everyone who says, they belong to the Light, belong to God. Let us not be ignorant dear friends, and deceive ourselves – be it a Jew or a Gentile. The LORD already cautioned us…
– “20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” – Matthew 7:20-21
May the LORD help us, to truly represent Him, and not be some pretenders, posing to know the Light, and to be His representatives – “20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” – Matthew 7:20
"The gospel of Jesus Christ transforms our character and builds Christlikeness into it—a Christlikeness that cannot be hidden and makes its own impression on others. For becoming ‘worthy of the gospel of Christ’ is, in simple terms, becoming more like the Lord Jesus."
