LOVE and RELATIONSHIPS

Human beings are created for relationships. That is why the LORD God our Creator said, “18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone…” – Genesis 2:18a. Therefore a companion, a friend, a helpmate, a critique, a support mechanism, and a soulmate was envisaged, and created by the LORD God, from man – “18…I will make him an help meet for him.” – Genesis 2:18b

Relationships per se requires LOVE, FORGIVENESS, ADJUSTMENTS and SACRIFICES to survive and succeed. Without any of these, they will falter, fail and fracture the relationship.

Of all the relationships that we know, the one between the parents and the children, stands closest to the ideal relationship. Parents love, forgive, adjust and sacrifice for their children without ever being asked, and without much expectation in return. Therefore, the LORD God commanded, “12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” – Exodus 20:12.

The relationship pattern the parents provide should form the template for every other human relationship. Only when we adapt this template of LOVE, FORGIVENESS, ADJUSTMENTS and SACRIFICES, can we succeed in having healthy, meaningful and vibrant relationship.
