Psalms 66 begins with A CALL TO PRAISE – “1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works!…
4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.” – Psalms 66:1-4
The author further EXHORTS the faithful ones, to BLESS the LORD, and PRAISE HIM, giving the reader, the REASON for doing so – “8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.” – Psalms 66:8-9
The author, then INFORMS us, that he WILL go to the HOUSE of GOD and PAY HIM all his vows – “13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,” – Psalms 66:13.
The writer then gives A SHORT GLIMPSE into the reasons for ALL that he is DOING – “16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God,
and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.” – Psalms 66:16-17, 20.
Now, let us put ourselves in the place of the author of this Psalm. Don’t you think this could be our Psalm too? Hasn’t the LORD God Almighty been good, gracious and merciful to us and towards all that is close to our hearts? Therefore, “6 O come, let us worship and bow down:
let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.” – Psalms 95:6-7.
"Sometimes I go to God and say, ‘God if Thou dost never answer another prayer while I live on this earth, I will still worship Thee as long as I live and in the ages to come for what Thou hast has done already.’ God’s already put me so far in debt that if I were to live one million millenniums I couldn’t pay Him for what He’s done for me."
