Pastors are important, and so are the preachers and all other teachers related to the development of our faith. However, no one, and nothing, can and should replace, the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible should and must be the first teacher, for ever Christian, and not our Pastors, nor any Preacher, or any Teacher of the LORD…whoever it may be, and however good they may be.
George Muller expounds the reason for making the Bible our primary source of learning says – *”The vigour of our spiritual life will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our life and thoughts.”* This is the reason why the LORD gave us the Bible. This is one of the reasons, why the reformers protested against the then Church. D. L. Moody says thus about the Bible – “I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible.”
The LORD, speaking through the apostle Paul, has some very sound advise for us…
– “6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel…8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” – Galatians 1:6,8,9
We are called to be like the Bereans….
– “11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” – Acts 17:11
We are to make the Bible our first source of learning because there are a lot of Flase Teachers…and we are in the Last Days…Jesus Himself had warned us about, the deceit and the manipulations of the false teachers…if we are not secured by the Word of God, we would be easily swayed and deceived…
– “24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” – Matthew 24:24.
The Bible is compared to LAMP and LIGHT, which help us navigate through darkness…
– “105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path…103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way…9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word…11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” – Psalm 119:105; 119:103-104; 119:9,11
May the LORD help us to make the Word of God our first source of learning. May we dig deeper and deeper into the Bible as we progress on our journey called life. The LORD will speak to us, and will guide us. May we resolutely devote ourselves to the reading of the Word and to prayer, as did the early Church. Even so the LORD help us.
"God wants to communicate with you in the 21st century. He wrote His message in a book. He asks you to come and study that book for three compelling reasons: it is essential for growth. It is essential for maturity. It is essential for equipping you, training you, so that you might be an available, clean, sharp instrument in His hands to accomplish His purposes. So the real question confronting you now is: How can you afford not to be in God’s Word?"
