Human life is designed in such a way that, nothing comes to us by accident. God, when He created man, He gave man a task – God said “work” hard and earn your stripes. This is the way I see the creation account of man.
– “26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” – Genesis 1:26-28
There are two parts in the above three verses. One is what God is thinking within Himself. Two, is what God spoke to the man and the woman. An interesting aspect to note – we see the word “dominion” used twice, with an insight into what it means to have “dominion” over the creation explained. Here is what we can observe, from three verses.
– God created man – “And God said, Let us make man…”
– God created man in His own image – “in our image, after our likeness:”
– God wanted man to have “dominion” – “let them have dominion…”
– “Dominion” as described and defined twice, by God Himself is – “”let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”
What we see in verse 26 is, God’s blueprint for the creation of man. These are God’s thoughts, revealing His intentions. What we see in verses 27-28, is what God spoke to man, after creating him. God reveals His heart for man’s existence on the earth. This is in other words – the purpose of man, and the work related with it.
What we can understand from the above three verses is that, God does not want man to have everything handed over to him on a platter – NOTHING COMES BY ACCIDENT. If man wants a good life, then we are expected to work and earn it. God doesn’t want human beings to be lazy. God created us in His likeness, and in His image. By working hard with all our mental and physical abilities, we not only reflect God, but also worship Him by the fruit of our works.
Success requires intention, a plan, a proper execution of the plan; a quick and flexible approach, where we adapt to the changes, without comprising the intention and the integrity of the intended plan; staying the full course till the complete execution of the plan. Success comes to us, only when we follow this pattern with all our heart, mind and body.
So we should,
– learn to work hard.
– Be disciplined in our pursuit.
– Acquire all the knowledge and the skills required, which will help us succeed in the pursuit of our dreams.
– We are to be intentional in our approach.
– We are to push ourselves the extra mile.
– Nothing comes by sitting in one place.
– Nothing of worth comes without struggle and pain.
– Nothing of lasting value comes without discipline, dedication and hard work.
Most important of all, we should have…
– a kind and generous heart.
– a helpful nature.
– a compassionate outlook.
– a humble attitude.
– a man of integrity, truthfulness, honesty and transparent with ourselves and others.
– It is not easy, rather rare, to have such qualities, and in such a combination.
May the LORD God be with us. May He help us keep in doing what is right. May God bless all our efforts for His glory, and for the blessing of His people, and His kingdom. Herein is our personal blessing and our benefit. May we be found by God, our Master, to be good and faithful servants – Matthew 25:14-30. Even so, the LORD help us.
"If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all."
