Yesterday we all heard the sermon from the Pastor, if we had attended the Sunday Church service. In all likelihood, the Pastor should have prayerfully and diligently prepared his sermon. The LORD uses the Pastors and Preachers to speak to His children, the words that God wanted us to hear. Since we all have heard God’s Word through His servant, the Pastor, God’s mouthpiece; now what is left for us is, to obey what God had spoken to us. For God spoke through His servants so that we obey Him with all our hearts.
The LORD Jesus, speaking in response to a lady who praised Him, says thus…
– “27 And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” 28 But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” – Luke 11:27-28
Dear brothers and sisters, the LORD Jesus is very clear as to what is expected from us, as His followers, disciples and His ambassadors. The LORD Jesus expects us to obey His words. For in our obedience is seen our faith. Our obedience to the LORD tells us that our faith in Him is genuine, and not false and fake. It declares to the whole world that we believe in the LORD Jesus Christ, and that we belong to Him and Him alone.
– “For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be declared righteous.” – Romans 2:13
The Bible addressing this matter speaks about it very very clearly, and unambiguously. Let us read what the LORD says in the Bible.
– “23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” – John 14:23
– “22 So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.” – 1 Samuel 15:22
– “22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” – James 1:22-25
– “22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:” – Matthew 7:22-24
The Sanctuary of God is one of the places of God’s revelation to us, intended for our personal renewal of faith and recommitment to Him who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light; which should encourage and enable us to live our faith in the LORD Jesus, in the real world, among the people who don’t know the LORD Jesus, but see His followers and disciples – us. May we as the children of the Living God be not only hearers of His Word, but also be doers of His Word. May we be found by our LORD Jesus to be people who are faithful and obedient to Him all the days of our lives. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"Obedience demonstrates that hearing has produced true faith. Jesus’ disciples are identified not merely by knowledge of God’s word, but by lives ordered under it; such obedience flows from love for God and trust in His grace (John 14:15; James 1:22)."
