The knowledge about God Almighty is no secret. It is openly available, if only one cares to look around and see.
– “20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,” – Romans 1:20
However, the knowledge about God is infinite and unfathomable by man. If one were to begin to study all about God, a lifetime would fall woefully short. In fact even a million lifetimes would fall way way short. This only goes in to tell us that we should in all earnestness spend more time learning about God, His character and His attributes. Such a study would immensely benefit us in our spiritual growth and maturity.
– “8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” – Philippians 3:8-11
As today is the LORD’s Day, let us see what we can learn about our LORD. I could think of four distinct qualities of God. Our LORD is…
– GOOD and GRACIOUS
– LOVING and KIND
– JUST and RIGHTEOUS
– MERCIFUL and FORGIVING
1- Our LORD is…GOOD and GRACIOUS
– “1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” – Psalm 136:1
– “8 The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.” – Psalm 145:8-9
2- Our LORD is…LOVING and KIND
– “4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” – Titus 3:4-7
3- Our LORD is…JUST and RIGHTEOUS
– “17 The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. 18 The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. 19 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. 20 The LORD preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy.” – Psalm 145:17-20
4- Our LORD is…MERCIFUL and FORGIVING
– “8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. 9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.” – Psalm 103:8-10
Dear brothers and sisters let us not stop desiring to know our God and increase in our knowledge about Him and His attributes, more than anything else in our lives. May this holy desire be the first and foremost in all our desires. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
