Human beings are always on the search for a great and honourable life. In itself, seeking for a good or a great life, and honour or respect in our lives, is not a wrong or bad thing. If what man is seeking for as the end, is good, then the means adopted to arrive at it has to be also, equally good. If wrong or bad means are adopted to arrive at good and noble ends, then it is no good at all. At the very least, it would be immoral, and at its worst, evil. In fact, it is evil, right from the word go.
The Word of God, which is our guide to a good life and honour, has something significant to speak on this matter. The Bible is always clear, and there is no ambiguity or confusion about what it says.
– “21 He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness, and honour.” – Proverbs 21:21
Are we seeking for a great life with honour and success? Then we ought to read Proverbs 21:21 carefully. Not only read it carefully, but follow it faithfully. We are exhorted to follow after RIGHTEOUSNESS and MERCY. This is the whole duty of man.
When we seek after RIGHTEOUSNESS and MERCY with all our heart, as a child of God, the Christian disciple, then the LORD our God, will take care of all what we need, while fulfilling His purposes for our lives, in the greater interest of the kingdom of God. The principle of what we sow, is what we reap, applies very much to our Christian life.
– “7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” – Galatians 6:7-10
– “6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.” – Matthew 5:6-8
– “30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:30-33
– “12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.” – Hosea 10:12
– “25 I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore. 28 For the LORD loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off. 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.” – Psalm 37:25-29
Let us then decide to seek the LORD with all our heart, and run after Him in our lives. May the LORD Jesus be lifted up and glorified in our lives. When we do so, the LORD Himself will take care of all what we need, including, a great life and honour. It would be an unmatched life, but it requires commitment and uncompromising stand in our part. In simpler words, we call such a person, the disciple of the LORD Jesus Christ. Even so the LORD help us.
"The pursuit of righteousness and loving devotion is a central theme in biblical teaching, emphasizing a life dedicated to God's standards and love. Righteousness in the Old Testament often refers to living in accordance with God's laws and commands, reflecting a life of integrity and moral uprightness. Loving devotion, or "chesed" in Hebrew, signifies steadfast love, kindness, and loyalty, often used to describe God's covenantal love for His people. This pursuit is not passive but requires active engagement and commitment, akin to the diligent seeking of wisdom described in Proverbs 2:4-5. The call to pursue these virtues aligns with the teachings of Jesus, who emphasized love and righteousness as foundational to the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33)."
