Childhood is an age of guileless innocence. Disagreements and “fights” among the siblings are common. Siblings in a family have great “rivalry” as they are growing up. Most of the times it is innocent and harmless, and will not affect the future of their relationship. Sadly, sometimes it does.
When siblings do “fight” as children, one usually runs to the parents first. In all their innocence they say that they are innocent, and that the other is the guilty party. As it normally happens, the parents call the other party, and the whole truth comes out. In all probability, the guilt is never one-sided, as presented by the first child.
A lesson for us as grown-ups – though we know it, we tend to forget it. The lesson is this – “There are ALWAYS two sides to a story. NEVER come to a conclusion, without getting to know the other side of the story. The SIMPLE REASON being, we don’t have the “complete” story, from both the sides, to come to an informed and intelligent conclusion.” If we conclude just by listening to one side, then it is not only faulty, but a gross injustice to the other side. To conclude without knowing the other side of the story, is improper and wrong.
The Word of God speaks very clearly in this subject in Proverbs 18:17 – “He that pleadeth his cause first seemeth just; But his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.” – KJV.
“The first person to speak always seems right until someone comes and asks the right questions.” – Easy to Read Version
“Any story sounds true until someone tells the other side and sets the record straight.” – TLB
Let us practice this time tested principle of getting to know the story from all possible sides, before we come to any conclusion. This greatly helps us to arrive closer to the truth. May the LORD bless us.
"Why can’t I remember that not once have I ever seen a coin, whether grimy copper or bright gold, that had but one side."
