Love, as defined in the Bible, needs an unselfish heart, filled with compassion for others, and courage to step out, and do the right thing. Theories about love, compassion, kindness and courage, in our minds, do make much difference, in the lives of the people, only love, as defined by the Word of God, does.
If we want to know how to love people, and walk and speak its language, then we need to look at the God of the Bible. The LORD God Almighty, our Creator, and our Redeemer, is the finest example of love, in all its action, and in all its glory.
– “14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” – John 3:14-17
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Saviour who stepped out to reach out, and rescue, the fallen, the sinful, the wicked, and the rebellious people, is the One whom we should be following…nay IMITATING HIM, in our thoughts, words and deeds.
– “3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” – 1 John 2:3-6
To walk as did Jesus, needs courage. Courage to stand alone. Courage to face ridicule. Courage to pay the price for such a stand. Courage to take up the cross and follow our Master, faithfully and obediently, every single day of our lives. To walk the path that Jesus walked, is not some child’s play. It requires us to lay down our ego, our pride, our arrogance and our self-importance, at the feet of Jesus, and humbly pick up our life, and walk with Him daily, despite all the tests, trials and the storms. Would we be willing to do it? It is worth every penny, dear brothers and sisters.
– “24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.” – Matthew 16:24-27
God is looking for sincere people, who are willing to do, all what He is asking, without cribbing, and complaining. People who are willing to walk the talk. People who would love, just like the LORD. People who would speak, just like the LORD. People who would walk, just like the LORD. People who would have compassion, just like the LORD.
How about us? Are we merely an “assembly” of empty words? Is there some seriousness to who we claim to be? If we say we are Christians, then, is Christ seen in our thoughts, words and deeds? Does our life reflect our LORD? Is love, that God demonstrated, seen in us? Let us think about it.
"The call to "walk as Jesus walked" is a directive for believers to emulate the life and character of Christ. This involves living a life of love, obedience, and righteousness, as Jesus exemplified during His earthly ministry. The term "walk" in biblical language often refers to one's conduct or way of life (Ephesians 5:2). Jesus' life is the ultimate model for Christian behaviour, as seen in His teachings, compassion, and submission to the Father's will."
