Word of God, the Bible, has it own way of stating things. The Bible says it clearly and loudly, so that everyone would get it right and straight. When the time comes for everything to be weighed in, then none would have an excuse of not knowing things. Small wonder then, the Word of God is compared to the sharpest of sharp, two edged sword.
– “12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” – Hebrews 4:12-13
Human heart is desperately wicked. It is stubborn and unyielding. It is rebellious and evil. Our hearts don’t like to be told that we are wrong. Our hearts love darkness and evil. Our hearts hate light and truth. We long to live in the company of wickedness than righteousness. The state of our hearts is all too obvious.
– “5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” – Genesis 6:5, 11-12
– “9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.” – Jeremiah 17:9-10
The Sword, which is the Word of God, has its own way of piercing a human heart. It has its ways and means to penetrate any kind of heart. Our hearts could be strong, stubborn and tough skinned, when dealing with the things of this world. There is no heart, that can withstand and stop, the piercing of the Bible.
– “God’s word reaches us with surprising precision, and the Holy Spirit empowers the ministry of the word to work deeply in our hearts. i. Often people wonder how a preacher’s message can be so relevant to their life. They sometimes honestly wonder if the preacher has secret information about their life. But it isn’t necessarily the preacher at all. It is the sharpness of the Word of God, delivering the message in just the right place.” – David Guzik
Let us, dear brothers and sisters, first and foremost, take time to read the Bible. Let us seek the LORD to speak to us. Let us earnestly ask God to pierce our hearts with His Sword, if that is what is required. Let us urge Him to speak to us, so that we would not only hear His Word, but obey it with all our hearts. For it is in obedience to God, and what we hear from Him, is the truest indication, that we belong to Him.
– “21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” – James 1:21-25
Even so, the LORD help us.
"A sword with two edges has no blunt side: it cuts both this way and that. The revelation of God given us in Holy Scripture is edge all over. It is alive in every part, and in every part keen to cut the conscience, and wound the heart. Depend upon it, there is not a superfluous verse in the Bible, nor a chapter which is useless."
