Everything about YAHWEH is complete, perfect, wholesome and wholistic. God of the Bible is not in the business of haphazard words and works. Hence…
– “10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” – Proverbs 18:10
Let us continue our study of the names of God, and their relevance to us, our lives, and our walk as Christians. For our meditation today, let us look at, “JEHOVAH SHALOM” which means “THE LORD is PEACE” found in the book of Judges.
– “22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. 23 And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die. 24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.” – Judges 6:22-24
Gideon is terribly afraid, and was sure, he would die, because he saw an angel of the LORD, face to face. The response of the LORD, and the subsequent building of the altar by Gideon, for YAHWEH, reveals to us, things that will help us know God, much deeper and richer.
JEHOVAH SHALOM brings peace and life to all, who come under His wings of grace and mercy. The whole nation of Israel was in chaos and darkness. Gideon was expecting death. Yet, the LORD says…
– “Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.”
The words of the LORD speak to us about, the nature and the character of God. It reveals to us, how God thinks and desires to act. He is not man, to be influenced and led by fleeting emotions and irrational prejudices. God knows our fears. God know our situations. God know what is happening in and around us. Talking all that into consideration, the LORD grants us His grace, mercy and peace which passeth all understanding, as our rudder, and our anchor.
– “6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
JEHOVAH SHALOM will stand with us, and will surround us with His presence. His presence in our lives, will bring, peace and life to us, unlike anything and anyone else.
– “1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” – Psalm 46:1-3
May the God of all peace, bless us and guide us through all our confusion, chaos and disturbances. The LORD, who is our SHALOM, will bring His peace and life into our lives. Let nothing trouble and disturb us. The LORD will take care of everything. He will raise up the help needed by us, and will ensure His peace prevails in the midst of the storm, and His life, to infuse in us, a new verve and vigour, in our otherwise, lifeless lives. HalleluYah!!! This is JEHOVAH SHALOM!
"The name "The LORD Is Peace" (Yahweh Shalom) reflects the peace Gideon experienced after his fear of dying from seeing the Angel of the LORD was alleviated. This name is significant as it highlights God's character as a bringer of peace, even amidst the turmoil of...oppression... It foreshadows the peace that Christ, the Prince of Peace, brings to believers...fulfilled in the New Testament."
