Wednesday sees a decisive turn in the events of the Passion Week. The plot thickens, and the evil is out in the open. What we see on Wednesday is the desperate wickedness of human heart, in all it ugliness and evil.
“1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover. 2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill Him, for they feared the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. 4 So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.” – Luke 22:1-6.
The chief priests, the scribes, the elders of the people and the high priest converge and connive together to MURDER an innocent man. Nay, the ONLY innocent man ever – all in the name of God. Unimaginable it is, that they are supposed to be representing God to the people; and the people to the LORD. Can we have a greater evidence of the evil of a human heart?
As if on cue, Judas walk up to the “custodians of the law,” to be a willing accomplice in the whole evil plot. A man, who heard and saw all that the LORD spoke and did, from such close quarters, yet, turns out in reality, was nowhere close to the LORD at all. What a tragedy!
The chief priests, the scribes, the elders of the people, the high priest and a disciple – what a coming together of an evil alliance, to murder the sinless Son of God. What drama, and what a twist. A naked display of human heart in all its evil.
Where are our hearts? Are they in alignment with the LORD? Our heart does matter my brother and sister. Need to keep checking. Let us do it now.
"The human heart is the same the world over."
