A little girl was asked, “What is the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament?” The little one responded, “In Old Testament, the sheep died for the shepherds. While in the New Testament, the Shepherd died for the sheep.” Isn’t that a great way of looking at the Bible, our LORD and us? It sure is!
Jesus speaking to the disciples said, “11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. He loves us, and truly cares for us and our welfare.
No wonder that David wrote “1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1. He is our everything, and He is all that we need. HalleluYah!!!
The Good Shepherd is not only good towards us, but He is the epitome of all good things. “25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” – Peter 2:25. Thank You LORD!!!
The good Shepherd is our example to follow. Let us not forget, we are being made into His image. How much do we reflect the LORD in our lives? Do people see our Saviour in us? Or do they see someone else? Do we falter and fail? Let us go to our Good Shepherd – He will help us walk behind Him. He sure will!!!
“20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” – Hebrews 13:20-21
"The Greek word for good used in John 10 is kalos, and it means more than “good” as opposed to “bad.” It has the idea of “beautiful” as well as “good.” So a classical Greek scholar, E.V. Rieu, translated the statement of Christ as, “I am the shepherd, the Shepherd Beautiful."
