One of my favourite hymns is, “To Be Like Jesus…all I ask is to be like Him.” What a powerful hymn! This one line sums it all for us. What is the chief goal of our lives? What is the end result that we are aiming at? This is it, “To Be Like Jesus.” Nothing less; Nothing more; Nothing else.
However, it is easier to sing the hymn, than “To Be Like Jesus.” To live and love like our Saviour is not all that easy. The LORD said, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” He said, “44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven…” – Matthew 5:44-45.
What the LORD asks of us is are diametrically opposite to our natural nature. That is why the regeneration and the transformation of our hearts. When we yield to the LORD, He will work in us, and help us live for Him.
Henry Drummond says, “To become Christ-like is the only thing in the whole world worth caring for, the thing before which every ambition of man is folly and all lower achievement vain.”
To be like Jesus, is to live and love like Jesus. Are we Christians up to the challenge?
"True Christlikeness, true companionship with Christ, comes at the point where it is hard not to respond as he would."
