When we claim we are Christians, meaning we are the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ, then we have to “CLEARLY and VISIBLY” demonstrate a “TRANSFORMED LIFE” for the whole world to see. Christians should display a life that matches their confessed faith. There are no two ways about it. The LORD had made it abundantly clear in the Bible about this.
– “6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” – 1 John 2:6
– “1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,” – Ephesians 4:1
– “13 Ye are the salt of the earth…14 Ye are the light of the world…16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13a,14a,16
– “17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” – James 2:17
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, writing in her article *”Christians Should Look Different”* hits the nail on its head. What she says helps us see what the LORD is asking from us in the Bible.
– “Consistency of belief and behavior. Unbelievers may “profess to know God, but they deny him by their works” (1:16)— whereas true believers’ lives are expected to be consistent with what they claim to believe.” – Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth
We see the same pattern in all who were truly touched by the LORD Jesus – A TRANSFORMED LIFE. Our BELIEF in the LORD Jesus, and our BEHAVIOUR are like the two sides of a coin. One without the other makes the coin invalid and worthless. Our FAITH in the LORD Jesus have to be seen in our thoughts, words and deeds – and should align with each other. Here are few examples of such transformed lives from the Bible.
1- SAUL to PAUL – A RADICALLY TRANSFORMED LIFE – Acts 9:1-19
Saul was the chief persecutor of Christians. When he encountered the LORD Jesus, his life transformed totally. Saul became Paul and live the rest of his life witnessing the LORD Jesus Christ.
2- ZACCHAEUS – THE CRUEL TAX COLLECTOR – Luke 19:1-10
Zacchaeus, a tax collector was totally transformed when he placed his faith in the LORD Jesus Christ. His transformed life makes this amply clear to everyone, that he is now a changed man…because of the LORD Jesus.
3- MARY MAGDALENE – RELIEVED FROM DEMONIC POSSESSION – Luke 8:1-2
Mary Magdalene, was possessed with seven demons. The LORD Jesus delivers her, and her life is totally transformed into a gratefully devote follower of the LORD Jesus, and the first witness to the resurrected LORD Jesus.
4- THE SAMARITAN WOMAN – SINFUL PERSON TO A TRANSFORMED WITNESS – John 4
The Samaritan woman had a very different life before her encounter with the LORD Jesus at the well. Her life completely transformed after she met the LORD Jesus. She became a compelling evangelist who brought her entire town to listen to the LORD Jesus.
How about us this morning? This question applies to all of us, even if we have been walking with the LORD Jesus for many years now. Do people recognise us as the disciples of the LORD Jesus, through our thoughts, words and deeds, when they see us? Let us seek the LORD Jesus to enable us live for His as His disciples and as His ambassadors. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"As a chief tax collector in Jericho, Zacchaeus had likely gained great wealth through...oppression and extortion...His public response before Jesus reveals a decisive change of heart. By addressing Jesus as Lord, Zacchaeus submits himself to Jesus’ authority...Zacchaeus responds to grace with costly generosity...[he] commits himself to make restitution for every wrong he has done...His pledge exceeds the ordinary requirement and displays repentance that seeks to repair the harm [his] sin has caused [to others.] Jesus’ declaration of salvation in the following verse confirms that Zacchaeus’ generosity and restitution were the fruit of faith, not the price of acceptance."
