Each of us have our concerns. Most of them could be legitimate, and some our imaginations. Whatever the case, the question that we should be asking is, “WHERE ARE WE SEEKING OUR SAFETY?” To whom do we run for our security, in times of trouble and trial? Where do we seek for such things, will help us know, where we stand in life, and on whom do we depend, for anything and everything in life.
The Bible, which is the written Word of God, has deep and profound words, that should make us sit and take notice. One such passage is found in Psalm 33. It tell us about our LONGING for our safety and our security; the FUTILITY of human strength and ingenuity; and POINTS us TOWARDS God, who is our ONLY security, that TRULY helps.
– “16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. 17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.” – Psalm 33:16-19
Have we noticed the choice of words employed? They should speak to us like, a hot knife cutting through a cold piece of butter. Straight to the point, not beating around the bush, and no roundabout explanations. Let us break it up, and look at those words.
– There is no king saved by the multitude of an host.
– A mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
– An horse is a vain thing for safety.
– Neither shall he [horse] deliver any by his great strength.
So, to whom then should we look to, if all human efforts are vain and worthless? The answer is in the very next verses.
– Behold, the EYE of the LORD is UPON them that FEAR HIM.
– Upon them that HOPE in HIS mercy.
– To DELIVER their soul from death.
– And to KEEP them ALIVE in famine.
Let me repeat the question – “WHERE ARE WE SEEKING OUR SAFETY?” Who is it, that we desire to depend upon in life, for all our needs, and for all our concerns? May we realise that it is futile to depend upon man, animal and machines for all our concerns. Dogs guards and weapons can’t keep us safe. It is the LORD, and the LORD alone. Therefore, let us learn to trust God, and wait upon Him, for all our concerns in life. He surely will help us, and will certainly keep us safe. Let us never ever forget this.
"They who fear God need not fear anything else; let them fix their eye of faith on him, and his eye of love will always rest upon them."
