The whole world wants to be successful. We pursue things, that we think would give us lasting success in life. When we look at the world, we understand one thing very clearly, we have not grasped the success that we are pursuing. Surely, we have become more prosperous, and more advanced, on so many fronts. Yet, there is dissatisfaction, as though, the success that we are pursuing is a mirage, that can never be fully satisfying, and we want no more of it.
The key to understanding our dissatisfaction is our discontentment. The more we have, it looks like, the more we want. The more we get it, the more dissatisfied are we. How do we understand this paradox? Why are we discontent when we have achieved what we wanted to? The key to this is in knowing what we are are pursuing, to become successful in life.
The key to a successful life, as the LORD our Creator wants us to know is found in Psalm 84:11-12.
– “11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” – Psalm 84:11-12
The above verse tells us unambiguously that, there are two important things, that our Creator, and our LORD, is expecting from us, as His children, disciples and ambassadors. FAITH or Trusting God, and OBEDIENCE to Him are the two things that the LORD desires from us.
– “no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
– “blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.”
When we pursue faith and obedience, the LORD would unlock His blessings upon us, which would bring the much desired satisfaction and contentment. Not just that, it would be everlasting!
– “How God suits Himself to our need! In darkness, He is a Sun; in the sultry noon, a Shield; in our earthly pilgrimage He gives grace; when the morning of heaven breaks, He will give glory. He suits Himself to every varying circumstance in life. He becomes what the exigency of the moment requires.” – F. B. Meyer
What are we running after? Are we happy and satisfied with life? Where is God in the midst of all our pursuits in life? Is God a mere facilitator in achieving whatever we want in life? What place have we given to God, our Creator and our Redeemer? Has the desire to succeed in life become our god?
– “2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them…” – Exodus 20:2-5a
Let us always remember the two things that the LORD desires from us – FAITH in God, and OBEDIENCE to Him, at all times, and in all situations. Walking in His ways, regardless of the consequences, is what is desired by our LORD. Let us “REMEMBER THE KEY…ALWAYS” and never forget it. This brings true success in our lives, which will last forever and ever.
– “21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” – Matthew 25:21.
Even so, the LORD help us.
"The essence of godliness is in submissiveness to the Great King, who will grant his blessings to those who find their refuge in him."
