When the storms hit us, and our family and friends conclude it is our fault; the feeling of being abandoned is heart-breaking and eerily lonely. At such a time, what a joy it would be, to be vindicated by the one who matters the most, in the whole matter. God does precisely the same in Job’s case.
The LORD says, “7…the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.” – Job 42:7-8
What a vindication and what a chiding!
– God’s wrath is kindled against the friends of Job, because they were wrong, and Job was right.
– They were to offer seven bullocks and seven rams as offering to God because of this wrong.
– They have to go to Job, and Job would pray for them and their offering to the LORD…only then the LORD would accept the offering.
– Second time in the same passage, it is confirmed that, they are wrong, and Job is right
When Job prays [we can read it as ‘forgives’ in a sense] for his friends, the Bible records – “10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.” “12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning…” “16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. 17 So Job died, being old and full of days.” – Job 42:10,12,16-17
What a life! What lessons for us! May we be found righteous, faithful, humble and obedient like Job. So God help us.
"Job responded to his suffering with great faith. His story, and his response, leaves us with a very important question: How will you respond, when your world caves in? Will you dare choose faith?"
