Today is Sunday, and the Christians go to Church to worship God, along with their fellow Christians. Now what do we mean by “WORSHIP?” This word like others, has lost its essential meaning and purpose, over the course of time.
– “…if God is not the highest love of our lives, then what/whoever is becomes our God and the object of our worship. This is the very basis of idolatry and spiritual prostitution! / In evangelistic circles, there is this concept of ‘worshipping the worship’, which means we worship the method/act of worship rather than God Himself. If you can ‘worship’ only with contemporary songs, smoke bombs and multi-colored strobe lighting, you might want to check your heart to see who/what you’re actually worshipping.” – Spread Worship
Let us look at a few aspects of Christian worship this morning.
1- WORSHIP IS NOT MERELY WORDS OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING
– “1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” – Isaiah 25:1
2- WORSHIP IS OFFERING OF OURSELVES TO GOD
– “1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1
3- WORSHIP IS OBEYING GOD
– “22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.” – 1 Samuel 15:22
4- WORSHIP IS DOING WHAT GOD IS ASKING OF US
– “1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: 2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.” – Deuteronomy 6:1-3
Worship is living a life that is pleasing to the LORD who had called us out of darkness into His marvellous light. Worship is doing what God is asking if us in faith and obedience. Such a life is possible only when the LORD Jesus helps us.
– “2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2
When our lives reflect our words of praise for our God, then the LORD is truly pleased with our worship, because He is pleased with us. May we be true and living worshippers of the LORD Jesus, all the days of our lives. Even y, the LORD help us.
"...doing the will of God is the outshining of God in his glory. “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and give glory to your father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). All of life is the outshining of what you truly value and cherish and treasure. Therefore, all of life is worship. Either of God, or something else."
