The freedom that we enjoy today, is something that has come to us, because of the sweat and blood of countless, and mostly, nameless and faceless disciple of the LORD Jesus Christ. Not only heresies and wrong teachings, but the faithful followers of the LORD, withstood torment and torture; withstood physical, mental, emotional and material losses.
One such person is Athanasius of old. On 08 February 356 AD, Athanasius goes into exile, for the third time since the Council of Nicea in 325 AD. He firmly stood to defend the orthodoxy, and hence, was out of favour, as Arianism, a heresy condemned at the Council of Nicea, ran rampant throughout the Roman Empire. Not just that, Athanasius would be exiled twice more, before he died in 373 AD.
The obedient and faithful followers of our LORD, stood their ground despite the difficulties and hardships, because, they believed the truth, as contained in the Word of God. They felt it is worth the effort to stand for the Word, and pay the price, than compromise.
We are living in similar times, as did Athanasius. There are a lot of popular teachings, that run contrary to what the Word of God says. How are we faring? Are we aware of those faults and the fallacies? Do we know what the Bible says? Are we blindly and blissfully following the teachings, that are being fed to us, as truth?
"The nature of Christ's salvation is woefully misrepresented by the present-day evangelist. He announces a Saviour from Hell rather than a Saviour from sin. And that is why so many are fatally deceived, for there are multitudes who wish to escape the Lake of fire who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality and worldliness."
