I have seen some people, who live from ‘hand to mouth’ and don’t have much money to spare, yet, they want to adorn themselves with gold chains and bracelets. It is tragic to see them. They are driven by a desire, rooted in deep insecurity, to present themselves as well-off, when the reality is exactly the opposite. There are plenty of such people around.
Money, and the desire to present ourselves as well-off, is rooted in our dissatisfaction and insecurities. They are part of a deeper problem of ‘I am inferior’ mindset, if one doesn’t have these material possessions. In fact, they draw their mental and emotional security and strength from the material possessions they have. What a tragic life!
The LORD Jesus said, “15…Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth…31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you…34 FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THERE WILL YOUR HEART BE ALSO.” – Luke 12:15,31,34
May the LORD help us be secure, mentally and emotionally, and not run after things to fill the void, that only God can fill – “19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” – Mark 4:19
