Helping someone in need is godly quality. Giving is not a normal and natural human trait. Giving, as I perceive it is, not just a trait, but much more than that, it is a virtue. The Word of God has much to speak about this trait.
“9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.” “27 He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.” “17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” – Proverbs 22:9, 28:27, 19:17
Giving is a virtue that has its roots in God and His character. Giving goes much deeper than merely sharing our resources with those who do not have. Sadly many reduce giving to such a trivial level.
Giving requires an eye that sees, an ear that hears, and a heart that feels, and a person. All these combined should make the hand to give…to the best of our ability. Giving is about a person who is moved to so something about what he has seen, heard and felt.
Do we see, hear and feel? What are we doing about it? How are we responding to those around us? May the LORD Jesus help us to be like Him in our thoughts, words and deeds.
