The Children of God were always persecuted. This is the record of the history. Persecution of the Children of God was not because they were “rebellious” and a “threat” to anyone in any sense of the word. The problem is not the behaviour of the Christians – we are always peaceful and law abiding. The problem is about to whom do the Children of God belong to. The “ruler” of the world, Lucifer, hates his Creator, and wants to cause hurt and harm to God’s children, because Lucifer cannot fight God Almighty. The conflict is a spiritual conflict between light and darkness.
– “18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.” – John 15:18-21
– “12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” – Ephesians 6:12
Rome had raw power like no one else. Rome believed that no power can stand against it. Rome indeed was powerful. Rome certainly was invincible in so many ways. This is precisely where her downfall began. When it took on the Christians for multiple reasons, including, as a political gambit and a shrewd strategy of appeasement, it not only backfired on Rome, but made Rome to fall apart like a pack of cards.
Anyone who could read history should have told Roman Caesars that once there was a mighty empire called Egypt, where Pharaohs, much like the Caesars, were holding immense power, and believed, they were all-powerful and invincible. Everyone knows what happened to them – the Egyptians simply got downed in the sea.
What is common between Rome and Egypt? It is not that they both were mighty empires with unparalleled power. They were powerful, undoubtedly. What is common between these two empires is that they picked a fight with the wrong Person. They picked a fight with the God of the Bible.
Hebrew children were indeed weak. Christians in Rome were weak too. However, the God of the Hebrew children, who is also the God of the Christians, is not someone who is weak, and can be pushed aside. Rather, the God of the Bible is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. God of the sheep like Christians is not weak. Rather, He is the King of kings and the LORD of lords. The God of the Hebrew children and the God of the feeble Christians is the same unchanging God Almighty – Yesterday, Today and Forever. The quicker one realises this truth about the God of the Bible, the better it is for any power in the world. The greater the delay, the bigger the fall.
Dear brothers and sisters, take heart. The LORD Jesus whom we serve is not the One who abandons anyone who places their faith in Him. He will stand strongly and firmly with all who trust Him.
– “13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” – Exodus 14:13-14
– “9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’” – Isaiah 46:9-10
– “10 The LORD has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of all the nations; And all the ends of the earth shall see The salvation of our God.” – Isaiah 52:10
Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"Exodus 14:13 calls trembling Israelites—and every believer since—to replace fear with faith. We stand, not flee, because the Lord Himself fights for us. His salvation is real, timely, and decisive; the enemies that loom large today will be gone tomorrow by His hand. The verse invites us to watch God turn impossible situations into enduring testimonies of His power and grace."
