Let us see, for our meditation today, what the LORD has to say to us, about work and workers, from the passage in Colossians 3:22-25. The apostle Paul writes with great clarity and insight, and the LORD wants us to learn, some very important lessons, not just about the work and workers, but also about life itself. Let us read Colossians 3:22-25…
– *”22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.” – Colossians 3:22-25
Let us look at verses 24 and 25…
– “24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.”
Everything that we do, has a consequence to it. Any thoughts about the work, and the workers, is incomplete, without talking about the payment, salary, reward, compensation or consequences. In other words, “What we sow, that we reap.” This is the principle we see in the nature, and it is also a spiritual principle. The Bible also attests this principle – “7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” – Galatians 6:7-8.
As a worker, employee, slave and a bond-slave, we are expected to work, hard and sincerely with honesty and integrity. We are not merely working for the salary or monetary benefits, but rather, for things which are of far more serious consequences. The LORD is our Master, and therefore our reward is also from Him. He who knows our hearts, our intent and our motives, will be just and fair, in judging us, and will reward us accordingly. There is no escape from this. Therefore, it is wise and good for us to follow what the LORD says, as a worker, much more than that, as the LORD’s disciple.
May the LORD help us to reap good from the hand of God, as His “good and faithful servant” – Matthew 25:21.
"There is a Master who will recompense you, if your earthly masters never do."
