Singing is good! Singing at all times is even better. Whether one is happy or sad; up in the sky, or down in the dumps; songs have a way of helping us navigate life, and all its challenges. Music and songs are an integral part of a Christian’s life. Singing praise to our God, is uplifting and encouraging, apart from praising God for who He is, and what He has done. If we look into the Bible, we find a lot that is written about songs and singing.
The Psalm 95, is one such Psalm, where we are encouraged to sing songs of praise to our LORD. The Psalm is appropriately titled, “LET US SING SONGS OF PRAISE.” The first two verses of this Psalm, gives us a very good introduction, to songs and singing. The Psalm begins with these words…
– “1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!”
There is no good and appropriate time, for us, to sing praises to our God. Everyday is good, and any time is good too. Whether we are happy and joyful; or we are sad and troubled – singing praises to our LORD is good.
Some in the world, may look at such a thought, as sickening, and that the idea itself, to be stemming from a sick mind. Far from it, such an approach towards songs, signing and our LORD, is both uplifting and encouraging. Especially, when the songs are in the praise of our God, who absolutely deserves. When we sing praise of our LORD, we are, in other words, remembering all that the LORD had done in the past. This remembering will surely and certainly help us to find hope, strength and encouragement for our present situation. Simply put – The LORD helped us in the past. He will surely help us in the present…and in all future troubles.
The verse three of Psalm 95, give us the reason for praising God…
– “3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.”
The LORD God whom we are singing praises of, is worthy of all praise and glory. He is the Almighty God, and nothing is impossible to Him. This Almighty God, He cares for us, and is concerned about us, and our welfare. If so, who in their right mind will not sing praises to the LORD?
Paul, writing to the early Christians at Thessalonica, who are new to the faith, encourages them to give thanks to God, and sing His praise at all times…
– “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Do we need any further instructions or insights, as to why we should be thankful, and grateful, to the LORD, and sing songs of His praise at all times? Therefore, “LET US SING SONGS OF PRAISE.” So, WHAT IS YOUR SONG?
"Whenever we come into God's presence, we must come with thanksgiving. The Lord is to be praised...How great is that God, whose the whole earth is, and the fulness thereof; who directs and disposes of all!, The Lord Jesus, whom we are here taught to praise, is a great God...God over all, blessed for evermore. To him all power is given, both in heaven and earth. He is our God, and we should praise him. He is our Saviour, and the Author of our blessedness."
