Christmas is a time of giving gifts to each other. Have we given any gifts to anyone this Christmas? Did we give it to those who did not need anything from anyone? Or did we give our gift to someone who is truly in need and much wanting for some help?
To give gifts to our loved ones is good, undoubtedly. To seek for those in need, and give them something that helps their situation is even better. This is precisely what the LORD God Almighty had done, in giving to the fallen and lost world, the Saviour, who is called Jesus – for He shall shave His people from their sins – Matthew 1:21.
– “15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” – 2 Corinthians 9:15
The heart behind the giving of gift is very important, than the act of giving itself. Just because someone gave something to someone doesn’t make that person good, nor godly. Even Hitler gave gifts to his family and friends. God is a very fine example of Someone who gave something that is precious, priceless and indescribable.
– “14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” – John 3:14-17
We have received from God our Creator, a precious, priceless and indescribable gift. How about us this morning dear friends? What gifts did we give to our family, friends and neighbours this Christmas? Does it include the gospel, in some shape or form? Let us keep looking for occasions and avenues, where we can share this precious, priceless and indescribable gift of God, wrapped for us in unconditional love, unasked sacrifice and unmistakable humility. Even so, the LORD help us.
"Overflowing gratitude focuses on God, whose personal, matchless, and inexpressible Gift—Jesus Christ and the salvation found in Him—surpasses all language. Our giving becomes an echo of His unfathomable grace, drawing worship back to the ultimate Giver."
