Waiting is one of the most boring things to do for most people is. Waiting for someone or something is one of the most toughest thing to do, because of the ambiguity and lack of control over the outcome. This is more so in an age where everything is desired and demanded instantly.
– “…waiting combines two challenging states of mind: Not knowing what’s coming, uncertainty, and not being able to do much or anything about it. So, a lack of control. And, neither of those are comfortable states for humans to be in.” – Dr. Kate Sweeney
Waiting, for a Christian is absolutely essential, and is more important than most of the things in life. Waiting for a Christian, is waiting upon God. Therefore, it is absolutely essential and important. The Word of God exhorts us to always look to God, and to patiently wait upon the LORD Jesus for all our needs. This is the best thing we can ever so. For in waiting upon the LORD Jesus to guide us, we have our surest and securest hope of a great and bright future. For it is the LORD upon whom we are waiting.
– “25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.” – Lamentations 3:25-26
Consider what the Psalmist is trying to teach us.
– “The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.”
Waiting upon God and seeking Him is a blessing because, the LORD shine His goodness upon all who do so.
– “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.”
The same lesson is repeated twice, to emphasize the importance and significance of waiting upon God. It is good that a Christian should both, HOPE and QUIETLY WAIT for the redemption of the LORD.
Many great men and women of God in the Bible, hoped and waited upon the LORD patiently. The Word of God records that, all those who have hoped and waited patiently upon the LORD God Almighty, the Creator and the Redeemer, have always ended up on the right side of life, fully blessed and satisfied.
– “God is not in a hurry. He kept Abraham and Sarah waiting twenty-five years before Isaac was born, and Isaac and Rebekah waited twenty years for Esau and Jacob. Jacob had to wait fourteen years to get the bride he really wanted, and then he had to serve six more years to build up his flocks so he could be independent, a total of twenty years. Twenty-two years passed between Joseph’s betrayal by his brothers and the brothers’ reconciliation in Egypt. God is not in a hurry because all His works are done in love. “Love is patient, love is kind” (1 Cor.13:4). Let’s be grateful that God takes His time.” – Warren Wiersbe
Waiting upon the LORD and for Him to act on our behalf at the appropriate time does more good to us, than any harm. The LORD is good, and He wants to work upon us and shape us in a certain way. For that to happen, God needs to work deep within our hearts and our souls.
– “He makes us wait. He keeps us on purpose in the dark. He makes us walk when we want to run, sit still when we want to walk, for He has things to do in our souls that we are not interested in.” – Elisabeth Elliot
The LORD speaks to us even this morning through the Scripture portions below. Let us read them to know what, waiting upon the LORD is; and why it is a blessing to wait upon the LORD.
– “31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
– “14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” – Psalm 27:14
– “7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” – Nahum 1:7
– “5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. 6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.” – Psalm 130:5-6
May we learn to hope and patiently wait upon the LORD our God. It is He who will make His light to shine upon us. It is in waiting upon the LORD that we gain. Even so, the LORD help us to place our hope in Him, and patiently wait upon Him.
"The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes."
