Life as we see it today, is stressed and strenuous. Hectic schedules; time bound work loads; perform or perish kind of approach; excel at all costs; and an anxiety to be affluent, is doing nothing but making the modern man’s life stressful. The design that is employed is making us live lonely lives. Such an environment doesn’t allow room for any normal social relationships to take root and thrive.
Jobs, friends, family relationships, and all support systems are geared to be sidelined, if not replaced, at the drop of the hat. This is modern life…it moves on. Such an environment only breeds loneliness, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Rather, loliness seems to be increasing by the day, and there is not much of help available, if not absent all together.
The Word of God has a word for the modern man in Proverbs 12:25 – “25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”
The above verse doesn’t need much of an explanation. The heaviness that is talked about comes in different shapes and shades – loneliness, lostness, rejection, emptiness, fear of acceptance…the life goes on.
The way out is found in the garden of Eden. When God created man, He said, “…It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” – Genesis 2:18. We are created to be social beings, and our health is dependent on the strength of our social relationships, beginning with our family – God, spouse, parents, children, relatives and friends.
Let us seek the LORD to help us build strong social relationships, so that we be strong ourselves, and also be a source of strength to those in need.
