The most accurate description of man and his hearts is found in the Bible, the written Word of God, and nowhere else. It describes the human heart and gives is invaluable insights into its nature and its motives. Mind you, all of us are included in it description.
– “5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” – Genesis 6:5
– “9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind,” – Jeremiah 17:9
– “3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.” – Ecclesiastes 9:3
– “19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.” – Matthew 15:19-20
What about us? The called out people of God – Christians? Who rules our hearts? What controls and guides our hearts, motives and intentions? Are we like our Master in all that we think, speak and do?
– “21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—” – Colossians 1:21-22
May the LORD help us to be His true witnesses and ambassadors…”holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.”
"Belonging to the race of Adam, we are born alienated from God. Then as individuals, we each choose to accept and embrace that alienation with our wicked works...God’s answer to the problem of alienation is reconciliation, initiated by His work on the cross...In the work of reconciliation, God didn’t meet us halfway. God meets us all the way and invites us to accept it."
