Love is the foundation of our relationship with the LORD. Love not as some feeling, but as a commitment of faith, obedience and loyalty. The LORD, giving the law to the People of God, who were rescued from their bondage in Egypt, and onroute to the Promised Land, has this to say though Moses, His servant – “4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-5
We are exhorted to love God, and God alone, with all our heart, soul and strength. An undivided love for the LORD. Such love forms the foundation of the relationship of a Christian with our LORD.
The LORD Jesus, speaking to the disciples, says this in Luke 14:26-27 –
“26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.“
Many have misunderstood such a love. It is not to draw a wedge between God and other people. It is to emphasise that we cannot have anyone or anything else in the place that rightfully belongs to the LORD. The LORD God Almighty comes first in our lives…always!
It is possible for such love to bloom and blossom in our hearts. Even if one fails and falls down, we would never stay put there, if we realise the lostness of our heart, and the love of the LORD, that rescued us. Look to the LORD, and He will enable our hearts to love Him with all that we have.
"Here's the paradox. We can fully embrace God's love only when we recognize how completely unworthy of it we are."
