The LORD desires that, we always, and wholeheartedly, walk in His ways. This is well pleasing to the LORD our Creator. Also, it is good for us too. It is good because, this gives meaning and purpose to our life, and our living. Jehoshaphat was one such person.
Jehoshaphat is the fourth king of Judah. He is the son Asa, and he succeeded his father. He was a good man and a good king. He faithfully followed the law, and worshipped God. He took steps to further the religious reforms, which his father Asa had initiated.
The Bible records thus, in 2 Chronicles 17:3-6, about Jehoshaphat – “3 Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals, 4 but sought the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not according to the acts of Israel. 5 Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand…6 And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.”
The Bible, sums up the life and the reign of king Jehoshaphat thus, in 2 Chronicles 20:31-33 – “31 So Jehoshaphat was king over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. 32 And he walked in the way of his father Asa, and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the LORD. 33 Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.”
What a testimony!!! The LORD was with Jehoshaphat!!! How about our epitaph? Will it be written well? It is never too early to think about it.
"In II Timothy 4:7, Paul wrote to Timothy and said, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” That is my goal and prayer to God, that some day I will hear him say, “Well done.”"
