David praising God in 1 Chronicles 29 speaks one short sentence of twelve words in 1 Chronicles 29:13, which speaks volumes about his understanding about God and the depth of it. It should encourage and challenge us to measure the depth of our knowledge and our understanding of the LORD Jesus, and all His goodness, greatness and graciousness towards us. It is worth the effort.
– “13 “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name.” – 1 Chronicles 29:13
David uses three expressions, if we may call them so. In these three short expressions we get to see all what David knows about His God. It should challenge us to check what we know about our God.
– OUR GOD
– WE THANK YOU
– WE PRAISE YOUR GLORIOUS NAME
1- OUR GOD
David is using a sweet and endearing expression “OUR GOD” while addressing the LORD of all creation. This approach speaks about the relationship that God has with His people. It speaks about the status and the intensity of it. The LORD God Almighty, the God of all creation is “OUR GOD” – we belong to Him. We are His people. We are His possession. He is “OUR GOD” and He is our everything! How about us this morning?
– “3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” – Psalm 100:3
2- WE THANK YOU
David uses “WE THANK YOU” as a token of all what he feels deep within his heart towards this “OUR GOD.” THANKS is directed towards “OUR GOD” because of all what He had done for us, is doing and will do. The expression, “WE THANK YOU” is an acknowledgement of God’s goodness, grace and mercy. Not only acknowledgement, but a public declaration of the same. How about us this morning?
– “4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” – Psalm 100:4-5
3- WE PRAISE YOUR GLORIOUS NAME
David continues to speak of all what he thinks and believes about God his LORD as he declares “WE PRAISE YOUR GLORIOUS NAME.” The name of the LORD is “GLORIOUS” is a realisation and the recognition of the Supremacy and the Sovereignty of God Almighty. The whole world has to accept it and acknowledge it. How about us this morning?
– “10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:10-11
David, the psalmist, if we notice, uses the words “OUR” “WE” and again “WE” to express all what is in his heart about the LORD his God. It is not only David as a person or an individual, but all of us – everyone of us – should “THANK” and “PRAISE” the “GLORIOUS NAME” of this “OUR GOD” who is the LORD of all creation, the Almighty and Sovereign God. Even so the LORD help us.
"[David in] ...calls us to confident, joyful acknowledgement that Yahweh alone is God, our Creator, Owner, Covenant Lord, and Caring Shepherd. Because He made us, redeemed us, and watches over us, we respond with trust, obedience, and wholehearted praise."
