When the chips are down, as they often do, out true character comes out…bare and naked truth, of who we truly are. We may realise it or not, this is how life works.
It is very tempting and may even appear, very “logical,” to cut corners, and cross the lines of civility, decency and morality, when we are down in the dumps. Man seems to dump all that is of value and worth, to pursue what he thinks is right thing to do, when it is not going in our favour.
The above line is, in simple words, “Ends justify the means.” There is no serious desire for integrity, righteousness, nor any moral principles, values, and ethics, in such an approach. To put it in another way – “Everything is fair, in love and war.” Such a position is both, immoral and evil…a true reflection of man’s heart, which, as the Bible says, – “9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9
The LORD God our Creator had a problem on His hand. Man, whom He created with His own hands, rebelled and sinned against Him. Then, the LORD chose a certain path. Now the point to note, and note it well, is the approach of the LORD towards man’s redemption. God did not alter His righteous standards. He did He not dilute His laws. He did not amend His commandments. He did not adjust all what He had laid down. Instead, the LORD God Almighty, chose to follow His own law uncompromisingly, in rescuing man. He risked His everything to save man from his sin, and the consequences of it, without compromising or diluting the righteous standards of His law.
We, as Christians, have come up with a clever way of working around God, and His righteous law. We call it, situational ethics, and moral adaptation. The LORD God Almighty, expects us to walk a certain way – When the chips are down, we still have to display our honesty and integrity towards God, and walk on His path, with unwavering commitment. Even so the LORD help us.
"When the going gets tough…the Christian leans on God.” Psalms 18:2 (NIV) declares, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” God is my source of strength through the inevitable hard times."
