Life of king Hezekiah is a fine example for us to emulate. His father Ahaz, had been the worst ever king of the people of God. Yet, Hezekiah did not choose his father’s path, but chose to walk faithfully and obediently, in the ways of the LORD.
The Bible records in 2 Kings 18:1, that “Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem.” Hezekiah brought about sweeping changes in religious preferences and practices. He strongly stood for worship of Yahweh alone, and a total prohibition on worshipping alien deities.
“5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. 6 For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses. 7 And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth…” – 2 Kings 18:5-7.
The name Hezekiah means “Yahweh strengthens” in Hebrew. Alternately it may be translated as “Yahweh is my strength.” Hezekiah surely made YAHWEH his strength, and the LORD certainly strengthened Hezekiah. How about us?
