I am sure we must have heard the words “May Day.” It is a spring holiday; it is also a day marked to celebrate the work force, in recognition of their contribution to the world. Lastly, it is a distress signal, accepted internationally.
The Bible recognises the importance of a good worker, his contribution, and the need for Christians to be good and faithful workers.
– GOD WORKS – “31 And God saw everything which he had made [creation is the display of God’s work] and it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” – Genesis 1:31
– GOD WANTS US TO WORK – “28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” – Genesis 1:28
– GOD WANTS A CHRISTIAN TO BE A GOOD WORKER, JUST LIKE HIMSELF – “5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.” – Ephesians 6:5-9
What kind of a worker are we? *Are we working with integrity? Are we fruitful as a worker? Are we faithful to the work entrusted to us? Are we men and women of integrity, in our work?* Other may not notice it…others may not know it…we know ourselves well – isn’t it? What kind of a worker are we?
"What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow."
