The God of the Bible, the Creator of the whole world, the LORD Jesus Christ, whether we realise it or not, is the Sovereign King over all that is seen and unseen. Not only that, He is the God who loves and cares for us and our welfare, like no other. Isn’t that wonderful to know?
Arthur W. Pink, the English Bible expositor, wrote something in a letter, on 14 April 1940, that should be one of the foundational pillars of our faith journey…
– “Nothing is too great and nothing is too small to commit into the hands of the Lord.”
Many times, we seem to have a flawed understanding of who our God is. This is what, as I see it, A. W. Pink is trying to drive at. We may think, “Our problems are too great, therefore how can we give them to God?” At other times we may think, “Our problems are too insignificant, why bother the LORD?”
– In the first instance, we are not trusting God enough, to give our problems to Him. Instead, we want to have control over it, and try to solve it on our own.
– In the second instance, we have such confidence in ourselves and our ability to solve, that we don’t think it requires God to help us.
What many a child of God, who have walked before us, would advise us, is what Arthur W. Pink had said – “Nothing is too great and nothing is too small to commit into the hands of the Lord.” We are called to give all that is troubling us – big or small, significant or insignificant – to the LORD Jesus unhesitantly. The reason for doing so?
– The LORD Jesus truly cares for us and our welfare.
– The LORD Jesus is the only One who can and will surely help us.
Let us read some Scriptures to see what the LORD has to say to us in this regards, through His written Word, the Bible…
– “1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. 2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits. 3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” – Proverbs 16:1-3
– “5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” – Psalm 37:5
– “6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
– “6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6-7
– “11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – Jeremiah 29:11
– “30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:30-33
The lesson for us is this – whatever may be troubling us, big or small, let us take it to the LORD Jesus in faith. Let us always remember that – “NOTHING IS TOO GREAT AND NOTHING IS TOO SMALL TO COMMIT INTO THE HANDS OF THE LORD.” Therefore, let us place not only out problems into His hands, but more importantly, place our complete faith in Him and His ability to help us solve our problems, and walk obediently on the path that He is wanting us to walk on. Even so, the LORD help us.
"'Commit your works to the LORD' ...emphasizes the importance of entrusting one's actions and endeavors to God..."commit" implies a complete surrender and trust in God's sovereignty. The Hebrew word used here can be translated as "roll," suggesting the idea of rolling one's burdens onto the Lord...The act of committing one's works to the Lord is a demonstration of faith and acknowledgment of His ultimate authority over all aspects of life."
