“Come follow Me” said the Messiah to Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother. The same call is repeated with James, and his brother John; so also with Matthew, the tax collector – Matthew 4:19, Mark 1:19, Matthew 9:9.
The same call was given to Reverend William C. Blair. Who, heeding to the call of the LORD, he began his ministry as the first Sunday school missionary of the United States, and began his work in August of 1821.
His commitment to his call is seen in his first year itself. He did travel two thousand five hundred miles, most of the time on horseback. Establishing Sunday Schools, and overseeing the same in six states; founding sixty-one Sunday schools, inspecting thirty-five others, establishing four adult schools and six tract societies. His attitude and his approach is clearly visible in his first annual report – he was apologising that his illness had hindered him from doing more. The Sunday and Adult School Union will be so impressed with William Blair’s work, that they are compelled to hire additional missionaries for the enormous work.
The same call is given to us by our Master – Call to follow the LORD. Call to be His disciple. Call to obey Him. Call to be His ambassadors. Call to be His witnesses. Call to proclaim the gospel. The LORD Jesus says “24…“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” – Matthew 16:24-25
How are we discharging the work entrusted to us by our LORD? What is the commitment we are displaying? What kind of attitude and approach do we have towards the work given to us?
"What is closest to your heart is what you talk about, and if God is close to your heart, you will talk about Him."
