The loss of a loved is always painful, and it does create a void that can never be filled. Such is the bonding of human relations. The memories of that person linger long after they are gone. Those memories remind us about the absence of that person. Therefore, the void and the pain.
A Christian is not exempted from such an experience. In fact, when the LORD created us, life was not as we see it today. However, the fall and its consequences were factored into our relationships. Such void and pain should give us a sense of direction and purpose in pursuing the relationships that are still “alive.” Life is unpredictable. So, take time with the people who matter.
Remembering the loved ones is a good thing. However, a Christian need not despair nor feel helpless and hopeless. Surely, nothing can fill their gap, but the hope in Jesus helps us to look forward for the day when we will see them again – face to face! What a GLORIOUS Day that would be! This is precisely what Paul is writing to the Christians at Thessalonica.
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
What a glorious hope! Do we have such a hope?
"As I go into a cemetery I like to think of the time when the dead shall rise from their graves. ... Thank God, our friends are not buried; they are only sown!"
