Fruit is an indication of the kind of tree; fruit indicates the quality of the tree; fruit indicates the process adopted by the tree to produce it. The Bible has so much to speak on the fruit of a Christian. The same principles of nature are applied to a Christian, and the fruit we bear.
– Fruit we bear is an indication of our faith and the practice of the same.
– Fruit indicates the quality of our Christian walk.
– Fruit indicates the process adopted by the Christian, in our walk with the LORD, to produce it.
As Christians, we are called to bear fruit, which indicates a whole lot of things about us, and our walk – John 15; Galatians 5.
One of the fruit that is visible is the truth we live, or the lies we speak. Lies are of all kinds, small lies, white lies, misinformation, disinformation, manipulation of facts and presenting them to suit our narrative. We seem to have become more sophisticated, as the days go by, to twist and turn the truth, so much so, that it does not resemble anything that it once was. Such a twisted way of life is appreciated and embraced as, being a smart man, in an evil world. One wonders who is evil, in such a scenario. G. K. Chesterton’s words ring so true about the world we live in. He was spot on, in his insightful assessment of the direction that we as world are taking.
– “We shall soon be in a world in which a man may be howled down for saying that two and two make four, in which people will persecute the heresy of calling a triangle a three-sided figure, and hang a man for maddening a mob with the news that grass is green.” – G. K. Chesterton
The Bible speaks in Proverbs 12, some insightful words about truth and lies. It is worth reading them.
– “14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, And the recompense of a man’s hands will be rendered to him.” – Proverbs 12:14
– “17 He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit.” – Proverbs 12:17
– “19 The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment.” – Proverbs 12:19
– “22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.” – Proverbs 12:22
Beware the lies, and the ways of the world. Nothing comes for free in the world we live. The consequences of walking in the ways of the LORD, far outweighs the benefits of walking in the ways of the world. The choice and the consequences between the two are very clear. What do we desire?
– “28 In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.” – Proverbs 12:28
– “2 Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.” – Proverbs 10:2
– “8 The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. 9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” – Proverbs 10:8-9
The benefits of speaking a lie are temporal. The blessings of speaking the truth are eternal. There is no comparison nor any competition, between the two. The choice is obvious and crystal clear. May we always desire to walk in the paths of righteousness and truth. May we always desire to speak the truth, despite the difficulties, the struggles, and the consequences. Even so the LORD help us to choose the truth, and walk in its ways, always.
"Relatively few contemporary Christians are prepared to suffer for the faith, because the therapeutic society that has formed them denies the purpose of suffering in the first place, and the idea of bearing pain for the sake of truth seems ridiculous."
